COVID-19: Changes at SEF public service and border control

FAQS

Prevention and control measures for the new coronavirus (PT)

The State of Emergency is in effect throughout the entire national territory until April 30th 2021.

Pursuing the gradual strategy of lifting containment measures in the context of combating the pandemic of the Covid-19 disease, and taking into account the assessment of the epidemiological criteria for defining pandemic control, the portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) will resume, as of 19h April, face-to-face service at all of its bureaus, with the exception of ones located in the municipalities of Albufeira, Figueira da Foz and Portimão, where service will only be maintained for urgent situations, duly proven.
The cases of citizens who need to travel or prove the urgent need to leave the national territory are considered urgent, for imponderable and unavoidable reasons; citizens to whom documents have been stolen, stolen or lost; and other situations in which citizens prove the urgency of the service, whether for reasons of a humanitarian, personal or documentary justified medical nature.
Citizens who have an appointment from April 19 will be able to do so. All others who have seen their appointments canceled, due to the suspension of public service, during the last few months, will receive an email from SEF indicating the new date.
